See exactly what a photo is carrying
This reads the EXIF, IPTC and XMP blocks in an image and shows you the fields in plain language: where and when it was taken, which camera and lens, the exposure settings, which software touched it, any copyright and author fields, and any AI or provenance tags that have been attached.
It is the step to take before you publish or send a picture, not after. Once a file is out, so is everything attached to it.
What the fields tell you
- GPS coordinates
- The precise spot the photo was taken, accurate enough to identify a house.
- Date and time
- Original capture time, usually to the second, plus any later modification times.
- Camera and lens
- Make, model and often a serial number that ties photos to one device.
- Exposure settings
- Shutter, aperture, ISO and focal length — useful for learning from a shot you liked.
- Software and edits
- Which application last wrote the file, which sometimes reveals more than expected.
- Author and copyright
- Whether ownership fields are filled in — worth checking on work you are publishing.
Reading without uploading
The file is parsed inside your browser, so inspecting a private photo does not require sending it to anyone. That matters: the whole reason to check for GPS data is that you would rather it did not spread, and uploading the file to find out defeats the exercise.
If the check turns up something you would rather remove, the metadata remover strips it; if you want to correct or add author and copyright fields instead, the metadata editor writes them.

Frequently asked questions
Can it read AI generation prompts?
Yes. If the image was generated by Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, or DALL-E and hasn't been scrubbed, the prompts will appear in the XMP or EXIF data.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The extraction runs completely locally in your browser. Your image is never transmitted.
What if no metadata is shown?
Then the image has been scrubbed (e.g. by our AI Metadata Remover, or by a social media platform that automatically strips EXIF data).
