PNG is the right target when your WebP has a transparent background. Both formats store an alpha channel, so the cut-out stays a genuine cut-out — logos, icons, stickers and product shots keep their see-through edges instead of picking up a white box the way they would as a JPG.

PNG is also lossless, which makes it the safer format for anything you plan to keep editing. You can open the result in any editor, mark it up and re-save repeatedly without accumulating the compression artifacts that build up each time a lossy file is re-encoded.

The trade-off is size: a lossless PNG is usually larger than the WebP you started with, especially for photographs. That's the cost of keeping every pixel exact. Everything runs in your browser — no uploads, no watermark.
